Zombie Café puts an undead twist on the Cafe World formula



If Zynga’s Cafe World had a zombie outbreak, it would look a lot like Zombie Café. The two games are similar in a lot of ways, but only one has zombies serving handburgers to unsuspecting customers. We’ll let you guess which one.
In the world of Zombie Café the undead can be docile, which makes them perfect for the service industry. You’ll be running a dingy restaurant and your only employees would probably rather be eating the customers. But instead, they work tirelessly for you. The set-up is simple: you have a menu from which you can cook meals, each of which takes a certain amount of time to cook and provides a certain number of servings. If you run out of food, you'll have nothing to sell. While a meal is cooking, someone (either you or a zombie employee) needs to be watching over it, while everyone else handles serving the customers. Keeping them happy will earn you cash and experience that can be used to upgrade your restaurant and unlock new content.






But it wouldn’t be much of a zombie game if that was all there was to it. Your zombie helpers all have energy meters, and if you have them working while they’re too tired they’ll begin attacking customers, chasing away any potential sales. So you’ll need to rest them regularly. As you gain levels you’ll be able to add more employees, which you can do by infecting poor helpless customers.
Your restaurant isn’t the only one on the block, however. There’s competition everywhere. To tilt the odds toward yourself, you can send your zombies out to attack nearby restaurants. Depending on their level of fatigue and how your experience stacks up against your competition, a winner will be declared. If you win there’ll be some bonuses in it for you, but if you lose you’ll need to reanimate your zombie workforce, which takes time.


The gameplay is fun, if not particularly original, but what makes Zombie Café so enjoyable is its disturbing sense of humor. You’ll be serving meals that consist of everything from bowls of dishwater soup to gelatin molds filled with eyeballs. Why anyone would ever eat at your restaurant remains a mystery. Maybe it’s the service. The visuals contribute quite a bit to the humor of the game, with cartoon zombies shambling around and terrified customers waving their arms in the air. And when a human dies, a black “censored” bar covers up all the gory bits.
Zombie Café isn't all that different from Cafe World, but its undead theme, and all of the gameplay twists that go along with it, make it a much better experience. It’s pretty simple, and there will be times when you have nothing to do besides sitting and waiting for a meal to finish cooking or for a zombie to resurrect. But it’s all worth it when you get to serve people Hobo Delight. Whatever that might be.

Square Enix has created the world's biggest iPhone display using 56 iPads to promote Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, according to ElectricPig.

The gargantuan iDevice made an appearance in London’s busy St Pancras International Train Station today to celebrate the launch of Lara Croft Guardian of Light on the Apple App Store.

Strictly speaking it’s not an iPhone. It’s made entirely using iPads – 56 of them in fact. A handful of lucky Londoners who were among the first to glimpse it even got to walk away with their own iPad.


Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is the first ever co-op action/adventure game featuring Lara Croft. This brand extension incorporates the hallmarks of the Tomb Raider franchise including exploration, discovery, platforming, and puzzle solving. Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light allows players to experience Lara Croft from an isometric viewpoint, and combines new gameplay features such as character progression, fun fast-paced combat, and elements of cooperation and competition.

Topple - Cool iphone Game

The puzzle game from Ngmococombines elements of Tetris and Jenga, challenging the player to stack the highest tower possible via a collection of random shapes. As with Tetris, you rotate the shapes provided, dropping them into place. As for the similarities to the wood block game Jenga, Topple makes you work to keep your shapes from losing balance and collapsing the tower—the game ends if four pieces fall off the board.

Topple picks up where those classic games leave off, adding its own spin on things. For instance, Topple’s blocks are alive, with facial expressions that react to their position on the board. Place a block in a stable position and it’ll smile contentedly. Stack a block in a precarious position and a look of caution or outright panic will emerge, warning you that the block is in a shaky situation.

For this review lets start with the conclusion first -- I really like this game. I find this game to be fun, challenging and interesting.

I find its use of the accelerometer to be superb and I find the overall gameplay pulls you into the game even though it's not the kind of game that usually pulls you in so fully.





There are three modes for how one can control the device--

motion -- which uses the accelerometer,

swipe -- which uses finger swipes on the screen to control the plane, and

joypad- in which you move your finger around the screen as if you had a joystick.

In "motion" mode you are able to turn on auto fire which keeps your plane shooting nonstop.

In the other modes were with autofire turned off you tap the screen in order to fire.

All of the modes for controlling the plane work well but I have a clear preference for the motion approach since, among other things it uses the iPhone's uniqueness.



The game is basically a series of fire/bombing missions. You fly along shooting the enemy planes and installations on the ground. All the while you do your best to survive.

Toward the end of each round there is an extra special challenge which is harder than usual.

And along the way you have a variety of "power up" options. These allow you to rapid fire, spread fire or fly with additional planes for extra power.

The game is challenging, interesting and doesn't get boring. It can best be understood by watching it straight from a quick video --

Spotlight on The Sims 3 Player: Estatica

Sims 3 iPhone Character Creation

One of the things EA has been touting as The Sims 3's advancement is the characters' personality, which is applied during the character creation system. Here you're given the usual aesthetic customisation options (changing your Sim's T-shirt, haircut, shoes, eyeballs) followed by the application of five personality traits that shape their psychological makeup.

A manic Sim, for instance, could also have a good sense of humour, making him particularly good at telling jokes and goofing around, while miserable, reclusive Sims will fare much better when it comes to making the rest of the neighbourhood hate them.

But, although this is the feature EA has chosen to underline as The Sims 3's greatest enhancement, it really doesn't feel all that prevalent in play. The core duties in maintaining a Sim remain the same, such as feeding, cleaning, socialising - the lifestyle elements woven throughout the series - are independent of personality and seem to consume much more of the gameplay.




What these personality traits really offer The Sims 3 is replay value. A happy, outgoing Sim has relevant objectives, desires and abilities, useful when you want to play a game in which you climb the social ladder and build a big house. But a great alternative style of play is to become a complete nutcase - kicking over dustbins in the middle of the night, creeping out the other Sims, sneaking into their houses to use their toilets and becoming the scourge of this disgustingly utopian community.

The trouble with a sandbox game is finding this purpose for your character, and it seems to me that this is the area where The Sims 3 is actually superior. Trolling around the house, buying lamps, refurbishing the garden and redecorating the bath tub are no longer the sole activities that occupy a Sim's virtual life (although they are still present).

Instead, their personalities will help them dream up weird and wonderful desires, which you can choose to act on or ignore. As surreal as many of these desires are, they're also ingeniously human.

A Sim doesn't just find himself daydreaming about how to work his way towards a promotion so he can afford the new sound system that will allow him to throw a dinner party.

Genuinely organic and random thoughts - the kind we have ourselves, but rarely vocalise - crop up at regular intervals. The desire to know how to make minestrone soup, to see what your neighbour's bathroom looks like, to make someone laugh, or to catch 15 fish in the lake – these are the thoughts that occupy a Sim's mind.

You're given the option of locking in a few of these desires and turning them into objectives to complete as you guide your Sim through everyday life. Often enough you'll complete an objective quite transparently while talking to a computer controlled Sim, or visiting one of the town's establishments.

There are plenty of objectives to ensure you're not repeating yourself or predicting the next task, and they don't so much dominate the gameplay as enrich it. You're still required to play the typical round of Sims, getting a job, earning some cash, buying new goods and extending the house, but it's now a more exploratory process.

Rather than being confined to the house, you've got a modest neighbourhood to trek. If you want to make minestrone soup, for example, you'll need to visit the Corsican bistro to buy the recipe, then stop by the market to buy the ingredients (and buy yourself a bit of a cooker, too).

Heading off into the town does incur a small loading time, as the view switches from eye level to a zoomed out perspective, which presents the neighbourhood in a far more accessible bird's eye view. From here you can choose where you want to visit with a simple touch, which offers up context sensitive menus where required, or sets your Sim off walking to that point.

The same control method is employed when up close, making interaction with items and other Sims a complete doddle. Touch where you want them to walk, and off they go. Touch a lamp, and you can turn it on or off. Touch a Sim, and the menu offers a well structured system for interacting in every way possible.

The zoom function feels a little odd, since it uses a slider rather than the pinch and pull mechanics we've become accustomed to: using two fingers on the display allows you to rotate and tilt the camera angle. Sliding a finger on the screen pans the camera, so you've got an immediate and accessible method of controlling the view and ensuring you can see every detail required.

Which is particularly welcome, since The Sims 3 is a beautiful looking game. Despite the superb detail and animation, the iPhone handles the game's extensive use of 3D graphics with ease, and all the incomprehensible sound effects of the PC version are seamless at all times.

In the end, The Sims 3 is not a revolution in terms of its lifestyle simulator gameplay, and I'm very glad of that fact. This is an immaculate rendition of the PC game we've come to know and love, made without a single concession for being on a handheld platform.

EA is selling The Sims 3 on the strength of some nebulous, pretend personality system and the idea that it's built in such a large sandbox you'll never see the sides. But try to forget all that. It's The Sims in your pocket, in full, with all the character building and virtual life you could want.

A video demonstration of the Sims 3 game for iPhone and iPod touch has been posted by IntoMobile.

The demo is over 8 minutes long and shows how iPhone users can guide their custom “Sim” character through a virtual world as they mingle with other Sims, go to work and even decorate their house.





EA Mobile’s stable of iPhone games is already impressive, but it’s about to get even better. The mobile arm of famed game developer EA is putting the finishing touches on their latest in iPhone gaming - The Sims 3 for iPhone - and we’ve got the first-look scoop for all our readers!

These are the same guys behind iPhone-tastic gaming titles like Spore Origins, Tiger Woods PGA Tour and Need for Speed Undercover, so you know their “next big thing” is going to be, well, big. And, after spending some time with the EA Mobile team and their Sims 3 iPhone game, we’re convinced they have a hit on their hands. Keep reading for our first-look preview.

In The Sims 3, iPhone users can guide their custom “Sim” character through a virtual world as they mingle with other Sims, go to work and even decorate their house. From the “Romantic” trait or “kleptomaniac” trait to the “evil” trait, the player can choose from a vast amount of personalities that can combine in millions of unique Sims, which should make for some good “replay-ability.” The goal of the game is to simply to keep your Sim alive (by eating food and getting enough sleep) and achieving goals (like getting a job or buying a fishing kit) - a simple enough objective that makes for hours of addictive fun. If you’re familiar with The Sims franchise, you know what we’re talking about.



We were surprised by the game’s playability and the smooth 3D graphics (using an iPod Touch for demo purposes). All menus and navigation controls are incredibly intuitive - you flip through menus and scroll down lists with a flick of the finger. And, without being briefed on in-game controls, we managed to find our way through the Sims’ world with little trouble. The Sims 3’s iPhone-optimized UI is a testament to EA Mobile’s devotion to iPhone gaming.



The Sims 3 takes full advantage of the iPhone’s 3D graphics capabilities. The entire 3D world pans, tilts and rotates around your Sim character smoothly, without any noticeable lag. In fact, we were repeatedly impressed by the iPhone’s ability to smoothly render the 3D world with ease. sims3 07 300x200 First Look: The Sims 3 for iPhone [updated]You pan around the game with a single finger.

Dragging two fingers vertically along the touchscreen tilts the 3D view and rotating two fingers (as if you were twisting a volume-control knob) rotates the map. All the while, the game dims and raises the lighting to match the time of day in Sim-land - a nice touch to be sure.

The Sims 3 for iPhone is expected to bring the Sims franchise to the iPhone on June 2, but the version of The Sims 3 that we played with seemed just about ready for prime-time. EA Mobile said that these final weeks will be spent tweaking some minor gameplay details and adjusting the in-game soundtrack, which sounds just about right to us.

iPhone Games That Rocks - FastLane 3d Racing

The first thing that hits you about Fastlane is the game’s graphics quality. Fastlane is the best looking iPhone racer, hands down. What’s more, the game runs at a decent framerate and experiences very few slow-downs. Of course, you’re racing only three other vehicles and the on-road traffic is at a bare minimum, but still–it’s a lovely looking game.

How To Jailbreak Your iPhone using Pwnage Tool

Jailbreaking your iphone is fun and exciting!

This tutorial will show you how to jailbreak your 3G iPhone. It has been updated for the 2.2.1 firmware.

To learn how to use PwnageTool to unlock/jailbreak a 2G iPhone you can use the tutorial found: here.

If you have a 3G iPhone make sure you have iTunes 8.0.2 and continue.

Step One
Make a folder called "Pwnage" on the desktop. In it, you will need a couple of things. PwnageTool 2.2.5, found here or here

You will also need the 2.2.1 iPhone firmware.
2.2.1 (3G): iPhone1,2_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw

When downloading the IPSW file, it is best to download it with Firefox!



Step Two
Double click to mount PwnageTool 2.2.5 then drag the PwnageTool icon into the Pwnage folder.




Then from the Pwnage folder double click to launch the PwnageTool application.



Click Ok if presented with a warning.



Step Three
Click to select Expert Mode from the top menu bar.



Step Four
Click to select your iPhone. A check-mark will appear over the image of the phone.



Step Five
Click the blue arrow button to continue. You will be brought to the "Browse for IPSW" page. On my laptop, it automatically found the IPSW. If PwnageTool doesn't automatically find the ipsw file you can click Browse for IPSW....



Click to select the found IPSW file, a checkmark will appear next to it. Then click the blue arrow button to continue.




Step Six
You will then be brought to a menu with 7 choices. Click to select General then click the blue arrow button.




The General settings allows you to decide the partition size. Click activate the phone and Disable partition wipe-out. Click the blue arrow button.

NOTE*: Deselect Activate if you have an iPhone legitimately activated on an official carrier.
NOTE*: You may need to increase the size of the root partition slightly. My first attempt failed at creating the IPSW until I increased the size to about 695 MB.



The Bootneuter settings are greyed out for the 3G iPhone. Click the blue arrow button.



The Cydia settings menu allows you to create custom packages so you do not have to manually install the necessary them later.




Click to select the Download packages tab. Then click the Refresh button to display all the available packages. Double clicking the package you want will download it and make it available in the Select Packages tab.



Checkmark the ones you want then Click the blue arrow button.



The Custom Packages Settings menu displays listed package settings for your custom IPSW. For know leave these settings as is. Click the blue arrow button to continue.



The Custom Logos Settings menu allows you to add your own images as boot logos. Click the Browse button to select your Boot logo and Recovery logo. If you would like to use the iClarified ones they can be found here: Boot Logo, Recovery Logo.



Remember the rules for them: RGB or Grayscale format with Alpha channel and dimension bellow 320x480...



Click the blue arrow button to continue.

Step Seven
You are now ready to begin the pwnage process! Click the Build button to select it then click the Blue arrow button to begin.



Step Eight
You will be asked to save your custom .ipsw file. Save it to your Pwnage folder you created on your Desktop.




Your IPSW is not being built. Please allow up to 10 minutes.



ou will be asked to enter your administrator password. Do this then click the OK button.



When prompted if your iPhone has been Pwned before, we clicked No. It allows for a more thorough restore.



You will be asked to turn off the device. Make sure it is connected to the USB port.



Step Nine
Be ready to follow directions now. It will ask you to hold the home button and the power button for 10 seconds. Then, you will have to release the power button and hold the home button for 10 seconds to enter DFU.



If you fail, it will show you a message. Click Yes. Unplug the iPhone from the USB. Turn it off, then turn it back on. Plug it back into the USB and turn off the iPhone when prompted.

When done correctly, Pwnage 2.2 will display a message telling your that it successfully entered DFU mode. iTunes will also pop-up.





IMPORTANT***: If you have Mac OS X 10.5.6 you may have an issue with putting your iPhone into DFU mode. The easiest option is to use a USB hub between your iPhone and the computer. Another option is to run this automator script. NOTE*: Make sure the script completes properly. If the files are not replaced properly you will lose keyboard and mouse upon reboot. Later today we will post a third alternative for enabling DFU mode on your Mac.

Step Ten
In iTunes, hold the Alt/Option button and click Restore.



Step Eleven
Navigate to the Pwnage folder on your desktop using the dialog window that appears. Select the custom IPSW that was created (iPhone1,2_2.2.1_5H11_Custom_Restore.ipsw) and click the Open button.



Step Twelve
iTunes will now restore the firmware on your iPhone. This can also take up to 10 minutes.



If you so desire you may restore from a previous backup to keep all your settings or set your iPhone up fresh.



Step Thirteen
Once the restore is completed your iPhone will reboot and you will notice Cydia is present on the SpringBoard!

My Fave Iphone Game - Bejeweled 2

Bejeweled virgins, the object of the game is to switch adjacent gems, either horizontally or vertically, in order to line up three or more of the same types to earn points. When this happens, the gems vanish, allowing new gems to fall from above. This can result in cascades, in which gems align by where they fall and more points are earned, the points for each level being represented by a growing bar. A level is won by completing increasingly more sets of gems and lost when "NO MORE MOVES" appears. There's more to it than that, of course.
