iPad Coming To Singapore This Friday

SINGAPORE--The Apple iPad will make its way to nine more countries this Friday including Singapore, where the 16GB model with Wi-Fi and 3G will retail at S$928.

In a press statement released Monday night, Apple said the tablet will be launched in Singapore, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico and the Netherlands on Jul. 23.

The launch will come a week ahead of the iPhone 4, which is expected to be released in Singapore on Jul. 30 along with countries such as Hong Kong, New Zealand, Finland and Canada. The iPhone first went on sale in the U.S., Japan, France, Germany and the U.K. on Jun. 24.

Local mobile operator, M1, last week said it would offer service bundles tailored for the iPad when Apple is ready to launch the tablet here, but did not provide any other details.

iPad suggested retail prices (Singapore)

Over 3 million iPads have been shipped since its launch in the U.S. on Apr. 3. Measuring 0.5 inches thick and weighing about 680.4 grams, the tablet is touted to deliver up to 10 hours battery life.

Starting Friday, all models of the iPad can be purchased at select Apple Authorized Resellers here. Suggested retail prices for the Wi-Fi-only models are S$728 for the 16GB, S$878 for 32GB and S$1,028 for 64GB. iPads with Wi-Fi plus 3G are priced at S$928 for the 16GB model, S$1,078 for the 32GB and S$1,228 for the 64GB.

Where available, the unit is typically sold at Apple and Apple authorized outlets and iPad users will have to subscribe to a data plan with their mobile operators to access the Internet via 3G.

While not formally launched here, the tablet has been available for sale at some local retail outlets in the weeks following its official launch in the U.S., where the 16GB Wi-Fi model retails for US$499 and the 16GB Wi-Fi plus 3G sells for US$629.
